Accounts & Finance Specialist Recruiter Karen on how recruiting has changed in the last 18 months.
Recruiters are commission-hungry, don’t look after their candidates, they never take a correct brief. These words are all too often heard when people talk about the industry I’ve spent the last twelve years working in. Although I work for an agency that sets itself apart from the rest and has always done things differently (the right way!), the past 18 months have seen a mindset and cultural shift in how we work as an industry as a whole. With more emphasis than ever (quite rightly) on the well-being of staff and a change in where employees work from, what we as recruiters need to be mindful of when sourcing the right candidates has never been more important. Chasing a higher salary is no longer the key motivator for candidates when searching for their next opportunity.
With all that in mind, I thought about how in the last 18 months we’ve definitely seen a shift in what potential employees expect from their future employers, as well as the way companies hire new members of their team.
The pandemic has shone a light on recruitment practices and has shown that (particularly in the current candidate-driven market) if you have a lengthy hiring process then now really is the time to reassess and streamline to ensure you don’t miss out on the best talent. Our accounts and finance division is inundated with vacancies right now and more than ever my role is to advise clients on how they can attract the best talent, and in this ever-evolving job market that means offering flexible hours and hybrid/remote working options as these are becoming absolutely key to hiring the right people. It’s essential that you keep ahead of the game and can adapt quickly to change, and we can certainly help with that through our knowledge of the recruitment landscape across Staffordshire and Cheshire.
Things were very different when I began my career in recruitment. I was straight out of University and spent the first year learning the ropes, the incredibly fast pace, and gaining an understanding of the amazing highs and devastatingly difficult lows. When I joined Brampton Recruitment over 6 years ago, I knew I was joining a professional organisation with a strong reputation in the local area, and it’s a company where I’ve been able to really grow and develop within a fantastic team.
As we celebrate 15 years of business this year I welcome you to get in touch with me via karen@bramptonrecruitment.co.uk to not only help with any accounts vacancies you have but also help provide any advice and guidance on the current market (including salary benchmarking) and how you could improve your hiring process. Or if you’re looking for a role we can help you at every step of the way in your job search. You are guaranteed a warm welcome and most importantly an on-hand expert team of recruitment professionals who are passionate about finding your next role or hire, whether that be commercial or accounts.
A bit about the author…
I spent my childhood years growing up in Leek, where I was a happy kid who loved Disney movies (and still do!! Mulan is my absolute favourite and I’m pretty sure no one could beat me in a Disney quiz!). I achieved a BA (Hons) in English at Staffordshire University, where living in the Halls of Residence gave me my first taste of independence and I never looked back. A passion for anything creative, I particularly love ceramics and hope to have my own home studio one day! After starting in recruitment straight out of University in 2008, I’ve been in the industry ever since… I’ve obviously found my calling! With 12 years working in recruitment, if you’re looking for support I can provide a friendly ear, in-depth guidance, and support on all things relating to accounts and finance recruitment (and, if you’re interested, a wealth of Disney knowledge!)
